Germany advocated the imposition of EU sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry.

Berlin is in favor of imposing EU sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said.

“The federal government has called on the European Commission to include the civilian nuclear sector. This should be part of the next package of sanctions,” he said.

Habek noted that nuclear technology is “an extremely sensitive area.” According to him, Russia allegedly can no longer be considered a reliable partner in this area.

Germany this Saturday will stop the operation of the last three operating German nuclear power plants Isar-2, Neckarwestheim-2 and Emsland. It was originally planned that Berlin would abandon nuclear energy in 2022, but later the plans were changed. Prior to this, three of the last six nuclear power plants had already been turned off in the country.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that Budapest would never agree to impose sanctions against Rosatom, as this would threaten the country’s energy security. According to the minister, the introduction of restrictions was also not supported by some European countries that use nuclear energy.
