Germany ruled out extending the life of nuclear power plants to replace gas supplies

The resumption of operation of the last three nuclear power plants in Germany to completely cut off natural gas supplies from Russia is out of the question. This was announced on Sunday by German Economy Minister Robert Habeck.

According to him, the extension of the service life of nuclear power plants will allow replacing only a small part of Russian gas – only 2%.

“This is not the right decision, given the little that we will save,” – said Habek.

In addition, the high-ranking official emphasized that, in the event of a successful test of the safety systems of the nuclear power plant in Bavaria, the service life will be extended to be able to ensure a stable power supply during the winter.

Earlier it was reported that the German government plans to continue the operation of three nuclear power plants due to concerns about a lack of energy in the coming winter.
