Germany will try to eliminate the technical reasons for the reduction in supplies via Nord Stream

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the German side would do everything to eliminate the technical reasons for the reduction in supplies via Nord Stream.

“So far, we are seeing a reduction in supplies to Germany and other Western European countries, which is justified by technical issues. This may be an accident, but not necessarily. We will closely monitor the situation and, on our part, will do everything so that there are no technical reasons for such reductions” , – he said.

On Tuesday, Gazprom announced that it had been forced to reduce gas supplies via Nord Stream due to the untimely return of gas pumping units from repair by Siemens and the identified technical malfunctions of engines. Siemens, for its part, claims that the turbine cannot yet be returned to Germany from Montreal due to Canada’s sanctions against Russia.

On Thursday, Alexei Miller, chairman of the board of Gazprom, said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that there is no way to solve the problem with the supply of repaired engines for Nord Stream.

The problem arose due to the fact that Siemens only repairs engines at a factory in Canada. Sanctions confusion has led to a delay in delivery, because only Canada has imposed sanctions against Gazprom, now Siemens cannot take back the engines repaired for Gazprom, Miller explained.
