Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto refuses to support new sanctions against Russia.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto refused to support new sanctions against Russia.

According to him, the country sees no “reasonable reasons” for another round of sanctions, especially when it comes to energy.

“Energy is a really clear red line for us. We are not ready to force the Hungarian people to pay for a war for which they are absolutely not responsible,” the minister said.

Szijjártó added that Hungary will not make decisions that are contrary to the national interests of the state. He also noted that the European economy is approaching a recession.

“And since we don’t want the Hungarian people to pay the price of war, we also don’t want the European people to pay the price of war,” he said.

Earlier, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said that if the European Union continues to impose sanctions against Russia, this will lead to an increase in the energy crisis in the union.

“The EU should stop mentioning the introduction of the eighth package of sanctions, stop introducing measures that will only deepen the energy supply crisis,” he urged.
