IKEA is heading towards the connected home sector, the Swedish giant has announced today that it will offer solar storage to accompany its previously available rooftop solar cells. So, Tesla got a powerful rival.
Elon Musk’s Tesla produces not only the green electric cars but the home solar power and storage. Since today, Tesla got a new rival in this niche: Ikea is going to step into this business. In fact, the Swedish brand aimed at the smart energy efficient home.
According to Ikea, its batteries will be offered by Solarcentury, the UK’s biggest solar supplier. The Swedish superbrand is going to offer the mildest prices on the market for solar batteries, rooftops and the energy storage.
Ikea’s plans and perspectives in the energy efficient vector
Ikea says its solar and battery offerings will start from £3,000, depending on location, type of building, and ease of installation. That’s compared with more than £5,000 for a 14 kWh Tesla Powerwall. However, it’s not hugely cheap: UK start-up Powervault offers its own home battery product from £2,500.
Obviously, the world is moving towards the innovative smart technologies, which are able to save energy and decrease the burden on the environment. Ikea plans to extend its Home Smart products, and that sounds great!
