The European Commission’s idea that European countries should be forced to consume less gas is an attack on their sovereignty. This opinion was expressed by the deputy of the Bundestag from the party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) Norbert Kleinwechter.

“The EC’s emergency plan to reduce gas demand… is completely irresponsible… It must be admitted that these are only official recommendations so far. However, the fact that the European Commission is again trying to get more powers is irresponsible. No one asked them about this and did not give them the authority to do so,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that EU countries should be prepared to spend the entire winter without gas from Russia for the first time. Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, announced this on his Twitter.

“We must do everything in our power to protect households, workers, businesses. By acting in solidarity at the level of the European Union, we can end energy dependence on Russia. It is up to each of us – representatives of authorities, industrialists, citizens – to do everything possible to prepare for the upcoming winter season without Russian gas,” Breton said.
