The protests of the radical left continued from Saturday until early Sunday morning in the streets of Leipzig, several policemen were injured as a result of the actions of participants in the banned procession.

Earlier, the Leipzig authorities banned a demonstration planned for Saturday by supporters of convicted left-wing extremists. Despite the ban, according to police estimates, up to 1,500 radicals took to the streets of the city on Saturday evening.

Toward 1 a.m., protesters threw stones at a police station in the city center.

It is noted that on Sunday morning the police surrounded up to 500 radicals, detentions continue.
On Wednesday, a court in Dresden sentenced four members of a left-wing extremist organization to prison terms for attacking members of neo-Nazi and right-wing groups. Supporters of left-wing extremist organizations have previously threatened large-scale protests in response to the conviction of Lina E., the head of the extremist group, who, despite the verdict, was released pending appeal.
