Iran warned the EU about the consequences before declaring the IRGC terrorists.

Iran warned the EU about the consequences before declaring the IRGC terrorists.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf promised that if the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) in the European Union is recognized as a terrorist organization, the armies of European countries will be declared terrorist organizations and called on the EU to “think carefully.”

“Parliament will take retaliatory, quick and decisive measures against any actions to list the IRGC as a terrorist organization or impose sanctions against it. We will declare the armies of European countries in the region as terrorist organizations and take the necessary measures to counter them,” Ghalibaf said.

However, the speaker of the Iranian parliament urged European countries to “think carefully” before introducing measures against the IRGC, so as not to close the window of opportunity in diplomacy.

Earlier, deputies of the European Parliament called for expanding sanctions against Iran for human rights violations and alleged military assistance to Russia, as well as adding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the list of terrorist organizations. It was reported that the EU foreign ministers will discuss new sanctions against Iran for the situation in the country at a meeting on January 23.
