British Prime Minister Boris Johnson may take on one of Europe’s most powerful positions, NATO Secretary General, after incumbent Jens Stoltenberg steps down in September 2023.

Senior Tories support Boris Johnson’s candidacy for NATO Secretary General when that high-ranking position becomes vacant. Johnson is the latest British politician to be offered the job after Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and former Prime Ministers Theresa May and David Cameron.

The British prime minister has been considered for this role for a long time, also because of the distrust of the United States towards the figures of the European Union (EU) who take on this job. They have come forward too often with proposals to create a new EU army.

And Britain is trusted by the Baltic states, and Johnson has received international recognition for helping build an international coalition against Russia.
