“The report emphasized the importance of strengthening the nuclear military and highlighted that our nuclear military considers the deterrence of war and the protection of peace and stability as their primary mission, but in case of failure of deterrence, they will resolutely carry out the second mission, which will be, obviously, not defense, but another mission,” the KCNA statement says.
The North Korean leader also ordered, as part of the country’s strategy to strengthen the country’s nuclear forces, to develop a new intercontinental ballistic missile system for the possibility of an “urgent” nuclear retaliatory strike, in order to reliably protect the dignity, sovereignty and survival of the DPRK.
