Laos again records 4-digit increase in new COVID-19 cases

Laos again records 4-digit increase in new COVID-19 cases

The Lao Health Ministry confirmed that the country had recorded 1,052 new cases of COVID-19 and four related deaths over the past day, Vietnam Plus reports.

On January 14, the number of new cases in Laos returned to the 4-digit level, 247 cases higher than the figure on the previous day. The ministry of health announced that a few days of maintaining the increase rate at the 3-digit level was too short and brought almost no relief to the hospitals.

At present, the national tally of infections in Laos reaches 123,293, including 476 deaths. The capital city of Vientiane continues to lead the country with 400 cases, followed by Phongsaly province with 102 infections.

Commenting on the increasing of the COVID-19 presence, the officials urged unvaccinated people to get a booster shot (dose #3) to quickly go to designated hospitals and medical centres for immunization.

Last week, Laos has found first infection case of Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, according to National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

Lao Ministry of Health also advised the public not to panic and to take precautions as advised by the medical officers, while anyone who has had contact with passengers from the flight must immediately and strictly self-isolate for 14 days.

To avoid the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, health ministry will do its utmost to protect the society from COVID-19 by accelerating the vaccination programme to reach 70 percent of the population, including booster shots, as soon as possible.
