Liliane Bettencourt passed away aged 94 at home in France. She was the richest woman on the planet who dictated the style and became the fashion icon as well.
The fashion world mourns because of the loss of Liliane Bettencourt – a bright personality, elegant woman and gifted businesswoman. While few would recognise her by name or face, Bettencourt was the richest woman in the world and matriarch of the most affluent family in France. She passed away aged 94 on September, 21, in her mansion west of Paris, according to a release by her daughter, Francoise Bettencourt-Meyers.
As heir to L’Oreal, Bettencourt grew up in a world of glitz and glamour, mingling with the rich and famous. Yet, his French socialite was very private and unlike other beauty corporation doyennes, she remained relatively out of the limelight. Despite Liliane’s intention not to draw the attention to her person, her later years were shrouded by court cases, family feuds and even political scandal. It is hard to be a rich and famous woman, especially nowadays.
Unsurprisingly, Bettencourt’s sense of style was particularly spectacular and as a regular at the Paris Haute Couture shows, the principal shareholders of L’Oréal was never seen looking anything other than chic and flawlessly elegant outfits. She’s got style, she’s got grace, she was a lady, no doubt!
No need to say that Ms Bettencourt leaves her stake in this iconic, white-hot, extremely high-performing engine of global style and beauty to her descendants.
