London police announced temporary evacuation of people from Trafalgar Square

Police evacuated on Saturday people from the territory of Trafalgar Square in the center of the British capital. According to the LBC radio station, a suspicious object found there could be the cause.

“Police officers are in Trafalgar Square and have carried out the evacuation of people from the scene. Please refrain from traveling to the area,” the message posted on the Twitter page of the London Borough of Westminster Police Department said.

Soon a second message was published, which said that “the incident has been resolved and the square will be reopened shortly.” The police are still at the scene.

According to LBC, passers-by heard a loud bang near the square. This may indicate that the explosives team carried out a controlled detonation of a suspicious object, which is standard practice in such cases, the radio station notes.
