Lula da Silva reproached the UN Security Council for being powerless in the face of the conflict in Ukraine.

The UN Security Council lacked the strength to prevent the conflict in Ukraine, the world needs an institution with the strength and authority to make decisions, said Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

“If the UN Security Council had the strength to negotiate, perhaps we would not have a war between Ukraine and Russia. We need a serious institution that has weight and power to make decisions. And this is also important on the climate issue,” the politician wrote in blog after the conclusion of the G7 events in Hiroshima.

Speaking to reporters after the G7 summit, he said that he did not take part in the discussion of the Ukrainian conflict and also does not consider the G20 to be a suitable platform for this – this issue should be more actively discussed at the UN, and against this background the UN General Assembly should be postponed from September to July.

In 2023, the chairmanship of the G7 passed to Japan. The G-7 summit was held in Hiroshima, Japan, from 19 to 21 May. In addition to member countries, India, Australia, Brazil, South Korea, Viet Nam, Indonesia, the Cook Islands and the Union of the Comoros have received invitations to attend.
