McLaren offer Daniel Ricciardo $20m-a-year deal

Daniel Ricciardo reportedly had been offered a $20m-a-year contract to jump ship to McLaren when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to Sport Bild.

McLaren star drivers, Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, are also out of contract at the end of the season but there are options to retain both, so for Daniel Ricciardo, the current situation is very benevolent. According to Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko has claimed that McLaren have made numerous approaches for the 28-year-old river, but he is still playing the waiting game. Such a tradition, indeed.

“It probably depends as well on what Fernando [Alonso] does, if he stays or if he goes. If he does go, they’ll probably want a more experienced driver to come in, but we’ll see. There are a lot of things to weigh up right now, but nothing really further to comment on that,”

Mr Ricciardo said and admitted that he himself would rather he knew where he was driving next season before F1’s summer break begins at the end of July. The 28-year-old driver notes that the team has got the engine deal sorted now, so, ideally they’d want something sooner rather than later.

“Probably in the next two weeks would be ideal for them,”

Ricciardo suggested.

When asked about the story, Ricciardo said that it would be nice for him personally to at least go on the summer break knowing what the perspectives he has so he could enjoy the summer break.
