Niger president to be sworn in after ‘attempted coup’

Niger’s people got newly elected President Mohamed Bazoum who has been sworn in despite the attempt of a coup.

In the African country, the 2021 democratic presidential election becomes a watershed overshadowed by violence and an alleged coup bid two days ago. Despite that, the inauguration took place on Friday to mark the first-ever transition between elected presidents.

Niger’s historic moment has been widely praised by the international community that helps the country to maintain peace and stability. The Sahel nation suffers a lot from instability and insecurity due to the jihadists.

Two days ago, the alleged coup had been prevented from approaching the presidential palace by the elite Presidential Guard. According to the security service, some arrests were made, Al Jazeera has learned.

The newly elected President Bazoum will inherit all the problems that outgoing President Mahamadou Issoufou has been dealing with over the years.
