North Korea declared the launch of a military satellite unsuccessful.

North Korea declared the launch of a military satellite unsuccessful.

When sending the military reconnaissance satellite “Manningon-1” an emergency situation arose, the CTC reports.

“During the normal flight of the new Chollima-1 launch vehicle, after the separation of the first stage, the second stage engine failed to start normally, causing the rocket to lose propulsion and fall into the Yellow Sea,” the statement said.

The National Space Development Agency will take scientific and technical measures to investigate and eliminate the defects identified during the launch of the satellite in order to “re-launch as soon as possible.”

The satellite was launched at 06:27 local time. According to the South Korean military, the launch vehicle fell into the sea about 200 kilometers west of Ocheondo Island.

The failed launch of the satellite was strongly condemned by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, his spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a comment. According to him, any launch using ballistic missile technology is contrary to the relevant Security Council resolutions.

He again urged the DPRK to stop such actions and “resume dialogue as soon as possible in order to achieve a lasting peace and complete, verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
