Part of the engine of an Air Atlanta Boeing 747 fell on the territory of a private house in Belgium and frightened its residents.

Louis Demaret and his wife Adela, who live in the Belgian commune of Warem, said that the fallen part of the massive part broke through the roof of their garage. The couple later discovered another piece of the plane near the driveway.

According to Desmarais, he was in the bedroom when he heard the sound of an airplane flying over the house. A few seconds later there was a deafening roar. The man did not immediately understand what had happened.

“I thought it was a thunderstorm because we couldn’t see anything from our window,” he said. “It was only in the morning that we discovered part of [the engine] and the damage.”

It turned out that the detached hood of one of the engines belonged to an aircraft flying the Icelandic airline Air Atlanta to Malta International Airport. The incident happened shortly after the aircraft took off. But, despite this, the flight to Malta continued, none of the passengers on the flight was injured.

Due to damage to the roof of the garage, the couple called emergency services, and their area was cordoned off by the fire brigade. The couple is currently awaiting a visit from the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) to further clarify the situation.

Earlier in July, in California, a light-engine plane with one person on board crashed into the ocean in front of dozens of vacationers. Rescuers rushed to help the pilot and brought him to shore. The victim had a small cut on his head. Despite no visible injuries, the man was taken to the hospital.
