Pentagon: US successfully tested hypersonic missile for third time in a row

The Pentagon has conducted the third consecutive successful test of a hypersonic weapon.

The product tested is a Raytheon air-breathing missile. During flight tests, after separation from the aircraft, it accelerated to hypersonic speed.

“The development of our country’s hypersonic capabilities is the most important national imperative, and this was an important step forward. Successful successful flight tests give us even more confidence in the technical maturity of our Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC) prototype,” said Wes Kremer, head of the Raytheon Missile Division.

In July, the first flight tests of a prototype hypersonic missile created as part of the Operational Fires (OpFires) program took place at the White Sands US Army training ground in New Mexico.
