Poland recorded in the airspace of the country the appearance of an air object that arrived from Belarus, which may be a reconnaissance balloon conducting surveillance, the country’s Ministry of National Defense announced on Twitter.

“The air operations center recorded the appearance in the airspace of Poland of an object that flew in from Belarus. According to the air operations center, this is probably an observation balloon. Radar contact was lost in the Rypin area,” the ministry said.

According to the ministry, “the commander of the operational headquarters decided to involve the duty troops of the territorial defense to search for the object.”

Witold Sura, spokesman for the Territorial Defense Forces, confirmed to the RAP news agency that a search group had been sent to the Rypina region in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

“A ground search and rescue detachment of the territorial defense troops has begun work. It was sent to the area. It became subordinate to the operational command of the armed forces,” Sura said.

Information about the balloon was also received from the fire department. “We have information about the balloon in the airspace, which disappeared from radar in the Rypin area. Everything happened at night. At the moment, the fire guard is not connected to field operations,” the officer on duty said.
