Poland will build an electronic barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region.

Poland in March will begin construction of an electronic fence on the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia, the official representative of the border guards of the republic, Anna Mikhalskaya said.

Currently, the Polish military is equipping the border with the Kaliningrad region with a barbed wire fence. At the end of last year, the Polish authorities signed a $84 million contract to build an electronic barrier on the border with Russia.

“Construction of an electronic barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region should begin in March. The electronic system on the site with the Kaliningrad region will run on a 200-kilometer section of the land border,” Mikhalskaya said.

According to her, the contractor is in the process of preparing a project that will be handed over to the border guards.

The representative of the border guard explained that the electronic fence is “a system of sensors and cameras, thanks to which it is possible to control the border around the clock, regardless of weather conditions, without the need to be on the border line.”

At the same time, according to the Polish border guards, the situation on the border with Russia remains calm, last year there were 11 cases of illegal border crossing from Russia to Poland. In addition, there are cases of entry into the border strip. These are mushroom pickers who have lost their orientation in the area, and tourists who wanted to be photographed against the backdrop of the border post.

In the summer, Poland completed the main part of the construction of a barrier on the border with Belarus. The length of the fence is 186 kilometers, the height is five meters, and the cost is 1.6 billion zlotys (about $400 million). Now the design is equipped with night vision cameras, motion sensors and other electronics.
