Polish Ministry of Health confirms first case of monkeypox infection

The first case of human infection with the monkeypox virus has been confirmed in Poland. This was announced by the Minister of Health of the Republic Adam Nedzelsky

“We had about 10 suspected monkeypox, samples are being investigated. June 10 is the day when we have the first case confirmed,” the minister said.

Now the infected patient is isolated in the hospital, but other information about her location is not disclosed.

Rosamund Lewis, head of the smallpox secretariat for the WHO emergency program, said on June 8 that a person who has recovered from monkeypox can be re-infected with the disease. According to her, a doctor in West Africa, who had already recovered from monkeypox, later became infected again.

Earlier, the WHO said that the spread of monkeypox in Europe could increase during the summer festival season. The organization questioned its ability to contain the spread of the virus. It is noted that Europe is at the epicenter of the largest and most geographically widespread outbreak of monkeypox.
