The Polish president considered that Western countries should demand not only the suspension, but also the liquidation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline needs to be dismantled, Polish President Andrzej Duda said at a meeting of the Crimean Platform forum.
“When Russia is at war against Ukraine, when it attacks, occupies, a change of policy in the West implies not only the suspension of Nord Stream 2, but also the liquidation, complete dismantling of the gas pipeline,” he said.
Duda recalled that the construction of Nord Stream 2 began after the annexation of Crimea to Russia. He pointed out that, despite the condemnation of the process of joining the peninsula into Russia, many countries “appeased” the Kremlin in order to continue to conduct business as usual.
Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline from Russia to Europe that runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. It consists of two lines with a length of more than 1.2 thousand km each. The laying of the pipeline was complicated by US sanctions, but in September 2021 Nord Stream 2 was completed.
