Russia did not give guarantees for Biden’s visit to Ukraine, Bortnikov said

According to FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, Washington through the diplomatic line notified Moscow of Joe Biden’s visit to Kyiv, but Russia did not give any security guarantees to the Americans.

“This is not a secret – they said through the diplomatic departments that he planned to visit Kyiv. We did not give any guarantees at all. This is the wrong approach,” he said.

As Bortnikov noted, the Russian side simply heard the information that came from the United States, and “how they perceived it is their own business.”

Biden made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Monday and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Associated Press, citing the White House, reported that the United States, shortly before Biden’s arrival, contacted Russia “to rule out miscalculations that could lead to a direct confrontation between the two nuclear powers.”

According to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, Moscow very closely watched Biden’s visit to Ukraine and will follow the events in Poland, where the head of the White House went from Kiev.
