Scholz told in what tone Putin speaks to him

Negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin are always held in a friendly tone, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“The tone is always friendly, even if the views on the Ukrainian conflict are very, very different,” he said.

According to the chancellor, negotiations are important even when the parties have no illusions about their outcome. He also added that according to the results of all conversations with Putin lately, there have been “certain advances,” but they simply did not turn out to be far-reaching.

Putin and Scholz last spoke on the phone this week. It was, in particular, about the conflict in Ukraine, ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Russia’s concern over the unbalanced geography of sea supplies of Ukrainian grain, and the situation in the energy sector.
