Attempts by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to negotiate with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on gas supplies failed

Scholz and Trudeau have always paid attention to the existence of strong and close relationships, partnerships and friendships. However, on the second day of the German chancellor’s visit, when the conversation turned to gas, “the eloquence of the Canadian prime minister ended.”

Pinzler recalled that at a joint press conference with Scholz, Trudeau announced that Canada was considering a business model for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Germany.

At current prices for blue fuel, LNG exports to Europe do not pay off, and the Canadian side doubts whether it can pay off in the future.
Pinzler believes that Canada will not replace gas supplies from Russia to Germany in the near future.

“In order for Canadian gas to reach Europe, it will first need to pass through the entire continent through a pipeline,” she said, adding that this process is not fast and blue fuel from Canada is unlikely to cross the Atlantic this or next winter.

She stressed that Canada will be able to export LNG to Asia, since the fields are located in the west of the country.
