South Africa grants Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity

South Africa grants Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity

Grace Mugabe, the wife of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, will take part the 37th SADC summit this weekend in Pretoria following allegations by the 20-year-model that Mrs Mugabe assaulted her.

The Southern African Development Community gathers the African leaders, and Mr and Mrs Mugabe are at the centre of attention because of the allegations against Zimbabwe’s first lady. Gabriella Engels, the 20-year-model, insists that Mrs Mugabe attacked her with an extension cable in a Johannesburg hotel room on Sunday.

The whereabouts of Grace Mugabe haven’t been known since Sunday, but the police say the first lady is still in the country and has no intentions to run away. But that incident with cable didn’t improve the diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

“We had already put tabs on the borders, in relation to her leaving the country, so there’s no question about that,”

Fikile Mbalula, South Africa’s police minister, said.

Mrs Mugabe’s current whereabouts are known

According to the police, ‘red alert’ has been put out, and Grace Mugabe is definitely not that person who has been running away.

Gabriella Engels’ allegations made Mrs Mugabe request a diplomatic immunity but Pretoria is yet to comment on whether it will grant it. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s government and the country’s state-owned media have been silent on the allegations against Mrs Mugabe.
