Steven Spielberg, Javier Bardem bringing their Cortes idea to TV

The Spanish actor Javier Bardem and the Hollywood director Steven Spielberg are ready to realize another big TV project. The historical miniseries about the conquistador Hernando Cortes will be backed by Amazon.

Steven Spielberg, Javier Bardem will work together on the set of a new TV show about the Spanish legendary personality, Hernando Cortes. The life and love story of conquistador based on a script by famously blacklisted writer Dalton Trumbo, the project, once called Montezuma. The working title is Cortes now, the screenplay focuses on the brutal historical confrontation between Cortes and Aztec leader Montezuma in 1519 after the former led an incursion into Mexico.

Bith Bardem and Spielberg find Cortes’ story extremely interesting, the miniseries definitely will be successful. Despite the short life, Hernando Cortes left a lot of memories in the history of Old and New World.

Mr Cortes was eventually captured and held as a prisoner-and-guest by Montezuma. He managed to turn the tables, though, making the Aztec leader his puppet as his forces began devastating attacks on the Aztec population, leading to Montezuma’s death at the hands of his own countrymen. Later, it appears that he fathered a son on Montezuma’s daughter after she had been converted to Christianity, married to a series of Spanish noblemen and widowed several times.

the actor Bardem is proud of such an opportunity to play Cortes, Oscar-winner called it a privilege to tell an epic story. According to the actor, Cortes has bee taking part in a huge historical spectacle where two distant civilizations clash at the height of their reign.

As an actor, there is no better challenge than to serve such a unique project that I have been passionate about for years, and I am thrilled to be working with this dream team of Steven Spielberg, Steven Zaillian and Amazon,”

Bardem says in a statement.
