Sweden’s opposition leader Kristersson complains about fivefold increase in electricity prices

Electricity prices in Sweden have risen five times since 2020. Ulf Kristersson, leader of the opposition Moderate Coalition Party, complained about this.

“Electricity prices are breaking records almost all the time. Now we have an average of five times higher electricity prices than in 2020. The difficulties in planning electricity prices are very great,” the politician said.

The opposition leader also pointed to the government’s difficulty in planning electricity prices.

He noted that Swedish households are under pressure from inflation, rising interest rates and volatile electricity prices.

Earlier, the British energy regulator Ofgem warned that a harsh winter awaits households and urged to prepare for rising prices. Invoices will increase by more than 60 percent in October, to a record high, and prices will continue to rise in January.
