Swiss to further relax COVID-19 restrictions from next Monday

The Swiss health ministry announced further easing of its COVID-19 restrictions from the next week. 

Despite the corona situation remained fragile and had actually worsened in recent days, the Swiss authorities have decided to ease the restrictions. On Wednesday, the government allowing restaurants to reopen outdoor terraces from next week and open-air sports events.

According to the Cabinet, theatres, cinemas and concert venues will also be allowed to welcome guests again from next Monday, although visitors will have to wear face masks and keep social distance.

“Although the situation remains fragile, the risk of further opening is acceptable to the Federal Council,” the government explained.

Last month, the Alpine nation postponed plans to relax its restrictions, citing increasing case numbers and weak progress on immunization campaign, The Local Switzerland reported.
