Taiwan is looking for alternative ways to obtain weapons

Taiwan Considers Alternative Weapons Amid US Howitzer Delay The Taiwanese government is looking for alternative ways to obtain long-range weapons due to a delay in the delivery of M109A6 self-propelled howitzers from the United States. Earlier it was reported that the United States is postponing the supply of weapons to Taiwan due to the overload of its military-industrial complex in connection with the situation in Ukraine.

In August 2021, the US State Department approved a $750 million military aid package for Taiwan. Delivery of 40 M109A6 self-propelled howitzers, known as Paladin, was expected in 2023. Now the delivery of howitzers will be delayed until 2026. The department said that after discussions, an alternative procurement project will be submitted to the Legislature for consideration.

The Chinese embassy in Washington said last week that the US should stop supplying arms to Taiwan. According to Chinese diplomats, Beijing reserves the right to respond if it intervenes in the situation around the island.
