Tensions rise between Algeria, Turkey

Algiers and Ankara have cooled the degree of their relations after Turkey is reportedly trying to remotely intervene in the internal affairs of Algeria and destabilize the country.

Algeria suggests that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan might have decided to add Algeria to its list as a new target in North Africa, and wants to mobilize the sleeper jihadist cells like the Rachad movement.

Over the year, the bilateral relations between the two nations have become exemplary in political consultation, security coordination, and cooperation, which includes several strategic fields, Asharq Al-Awsat has reported.

Warning on further deteriorating the situation, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that of “subversive activities” by “illegal movements close to terrorism … exploiting weekly [Hirak] marches.”

“The state will be intransigent,” added the 75-year-old Tebboune.
