The Dutch intelligence service announced the exposure of a Russian spy

The Dutch intelligence service announced the exposure of a Russian spy who tried under a false name to get a job at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which investigates allegations of war crimes in Ukraine.

According to the agency, the detainee – Sergey Vladimirovich Cherkasov – tried to enter the Netherlands as a citizen of Brazil for an internship in court in April.


According to intelligence chief Eric Ackerboom, this was a long-term GRU operation. The Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) said in a statement that the man, who introduced himself as Victor Müller Ferreira, was detained at the Netherlands airport, declared undesirable and taken on the next flight back to Brazil.


It is specified that in Brazil the detainee faces a trial.
