The EC believes that Canada’s return of the turbine for Nord Stream does not violate sanctions

The return of the Nord Stream turbine by Canada does not violate EU sanctions against Russia, since they do not apply to gas transit equipment. This was stated on Monday at a briefing in Brussels by the official representative of the European Commission (EC) Tim McPhee.

“Canada’s return of the turbine does not violate EU sanctions, as they do not apply to gas transit equipment,” he said.

The EC representative noted that “the situation with the termination of supplies via Nord Stream is very serious“, and that the European Commission hopes for the resumption of supplies after technical work, which will last 10 days. “The return of the turbine removes one of the pretexts that Russia used to suspend supplies,” he added.

McPhee recalled that “in mid-July, the European Commission will present a plan to prepare gas reserves for the winter.” He stressed that the EC is preparing” for any development of the situation.”
