The EC is ready to discuss a new package of sanctions against Russia.

The European Commission is ready this week to start negotiations with EU countries on what to include in a new package of sanctions against Russia.

Since the end of February, EU countries have introduced eight packages of sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. The measures include both economic and personal restrictions. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, recently said that the European Union is preparing the ninth package of sanctions against Russia “with maximum speed”.

Earlier, a senior EU diplomat told reporters that a new package of sanctions against Russia is likely to be agreed before the end of the year.
