The EC will increase the staff in the Directorate General for the Defense Industry

The European Commission (EC) plans to increase the staff in the Directorate General for Defense Industry and Space,  Politico writes, citing European officials.

It is noted that this is due, in particular, to the need to allocate credit funds within the framework of the European SAFE rearmament program.

“The European Commission’s Defense Department plans to increase its staff, including possibly hiring a new high-ranking official,” the article says.

Benedicta von Secher-Toss, who currently works as managing director of the European External Relations Service, is being considered for a new high-ranking position, the article says, citing sources.

In addition, it is planned to increase the staff of the Directorate General for Digital Policy. This is due to efforts to implement the EU’s European AI law, the newspaper writes.

According to media reports, staff changes will be announced this week. They are implemented as part of an annual procedure, when 1% of the EC staff (that is, about 330 people) are reassigned to departments under special strain.
