The EU Foreign Ministers approved the sending of a security mission to Moldova.

The EU Foreign Ministers approved the sending of a security mission to Moldova.

At a meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, the European Union Foreign Ministers agreed on the creation of a civilian defense and security partnership mission for Moldova, the Council said in a statement.

“Today, the Council established the EU Partner Mission to Moldova as part of the common European security and defense policy,” the document says.

The mission’s tasks are expected to include “increasing the resilience of Moldova’s security in the field of crisis management, countering hybrid threats, including cybersecurity, and countering foreign information manipulation and interference.”

At the end of March, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, reported that the EU was discussing sending a civilian mission to Moldova as part of the Union’s common defense and security policy. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, also advocated the early launch of an EU civilian mission in Moldova to support stability and security in that country.
