The European Commission blamed Russia for the 2022 energy crisis.

The European Commission blamed Russia for the 2022 energy crisis.

The European Commission accused Russia of high and volatile energy prices in the EU in 2022, despite the fact that Moscow has repeatedly expressed its willingness to act within its contractual obligations to supply energy, at the same time, the EU has taken a course to abandon Russian oil and gas, Western countries have imposed a number of sanctions against Russian energy carriers.

The EC on Tuesday presented its proposals to reform the structure of the electricity market in the EU.

“High and volatile prices, like those seen in 2022, caused by Russia’s energy war against the EU, are placing an undue burden on consumers,” the EC said in a statement.

The document states that the reform proposed by the EC “will allow consumers and suppliers to benefit from greater price stability based on renewable and non-fossil energy technologies.”

The reform proposed by the European Commission, before it comes into force, must be discussed and approved in the European Parliament and in the Council of the European Union.
