The expert explained how Russia’s suspension of participation in START will affect the United States

According to Dmitry Suslov, Deputy Director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to suspend participation in START takes the United States out of the comfort zone in which they could painlessly continue the hybrid war against Russia.

Putin on Tuesday in a message to the Federal Assembly said that Russia was suspending participation in the Russian-American START Treaty, stressing that the country was not withdrawing from the Treaty. He noted that before returning to the discussion, “we must understand for ourselves what countries such as France and Great Britain still claim, and how we will take into account their strategic arsenals, that is, the alliance’s combined strike potential.”

“Russia’s decision on START takes the US out of its comfort zone, at least in the field of strategic stability. The US deliberately insisted on inspections, the implementation of all routine procedures related to the START-3 treaty, in order to painlessly continue the hybrid war against Russia,” he said. Suslov.

“And therefore, in Ukraine, you can go further and further: in terms of trying to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. And Russia took the United States out of this comfort zone and emphasized that American actions in Ukraine and their hybrid war remain the main threat to strategic stability,” Suslov concluded.
