Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian held a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, in which he stated that the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran was used by the enemies of the two countries, and urged not to allow this incident to negatively affect relations between the two states.

The Iranian foreign minister also suggested to Azerbaijan that the security services of the two countries cooperate in investigating the attack. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Bayramov welcomed the idea.

“Amir Abdollahian, condemning this incident, pointed to the use by the enemies of the two countries of today’s incident, this incident cannot be allowed to have a negative impact on relations between the two countries,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the Telegram channel.

The head of the Iranian department also expressed condolences to Baku in connection with the death of the diplomat and regret in connection with what happened.


Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that as a result of an attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran on Friday, one person was killed and two people were injured. According to the head of the Tehran police department, during interrogation, the detained attacker “explained his motives by personal and family problems.”

 

According to the head of the Iranian capital’s police department, Hossein Rahimi, during interrogation, the man said that he was trying to free his wife, who, as he believed, had been on the fourth floor of the embassy for a long time.
