The G7 countries intend to reduce dependence on Russia in the field of nuclear energy.

The Group of Directors of the G-7 on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons reiterated its intention to reduce dependence on Russia in the field of peaceful nuclear energy and related products.

“Recognizing the risks posed by the current pattern of global reliance on nuclear energy supplies and the importance of diversifying it, the G7 is committed to expanding cooperation to promote global nuclear energy supply chains by responsible players and to further reduce our reliance on Russia for civilian nuclear energy and related her goods, as well as support for countries that seek to diversify their supply,” the joint statement says.

The energy crisis in the European Union worsened in early July 2022, when the first interruptions occurred in gas supplies from Russia to a number of EU countries, including problems with the maintenance of turbines for Nord Stream due to sanctions imposed against Russia.
