Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis will chair the UN Security Council meeting on Zaporozhye NPP on May 30, according to a statement published on the website of the country’s Federal Council.

“The UN Security Council will meet on May 30 to discuss the protection of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The safety of the power plant is under threat due to hostilities. At the meeting, which will be chaired by federal adviser Cassis in New York, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Marino Grossi will brief the Security Council on the situation on the ground and present to it the agency’s principles aimed at ensuring the safety of the power plant” – the document says.

The agency adds that Ukraine will also take part in the discussions, but does not specify that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is under the control of the Russian army, and does not say which side of the conflict is attacking the nuclear power plant.
