The head of the Turkish Interior Ministry spoke about US interference in the elections in the country.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said that the United States is interfering in elections in Turkey.

Soylu is known for his harsh statements against the West. Previously, he accused the United States of trying to create a terrorist state near the country’s borders. After the terrorist attack in Istanbul last year, he said that Ankara does not accept Washington’s condolences. During a meeting with young people, he stated that the US “continues to lose its reputation”, the whole world “hates America”, and Europe is a “pawn” of the States. On Wednesday, the interior minister also accused Washington of trying to interfere in the country’s elections.

“The United States is interfering in these elections… Everyone in this country already knows this, this is stated by the President of the United States himself. The attack on Muharrem Ince… It is clear where it came from, it is clear where it was coordinated. This is America. In recent days, Mr. Biden has activated his people in Turkey,” Soylu said.

Memleket party leader Muharrem Ince announced his withdrawal of his candidacy three days before the election, now three politicians will compete for the presidency: incumbent President Tayyip Erdogan, seven opposition party candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Ata coalition candidate Sinan Ogan.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are scheduled for May 14. The second round of the presidential elections, if no candidate receives 50% of the vote, is scheduled for May 28.
