The Hungarian Defense Ministry denied statements about the training of the Ukrainian military.

The Ministry of Defense of Hungary refuted the statements of the Slovak Minister that the country allegedly trains the Ukrainian military, the department noted that Hungary trains only military doctors, wounded Ukrainian soldiers are also treated in the country.

Earlier it was reported that the Minister of Defense of Slovakia, Yaroslav Nagy, said that the Ukrainian military was allegedly being trained in Hungary.

The Hungarian Ministry of Defense noted that the position of Budapest has not changed, “we are on the side of peace and do not support any steps that lead to an escalation of the war, so we will not send weapons or soldiers to Ukraine.”

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that Hungary was the only EU country that did not support the initiative to train the Ukrainian military in Europe and would not take part in it.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Hungary has consistently opposed sanctions on Russian energy resources and sending weapons to Ukraine. In early March last year, the Hungarian parliament issued a decree prohibiting the supply of weapons to Ukraine from the country’s territory. The head of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjarto, explained that Budapest seeks to secure the territory of Transcarpathia, where ethnic Hungarians live, since the supply of weapons through its territory would become a legitimate military target.
