The law on possible execution for Belarusian officials will come into force on March 25.

The law, which provides for the possibility of applying the death penalty for officials and military personnel for high treason, will enter into force in Belarus on March 25, the national legal Internet portal reported on Tuesday.

The law was officially published on the portal on Tuesday and comes into force ten days after its official publication. “The date of entry into force is March 25, 2023,” the portal explains.

In February, the document was adopted by the Parliament, and in March, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed it.

The law provides for the possibility of applying an exceptional measure of punishment in the form of the death penalty to officials holding a public office and persons who have the status of a military serviceman who have committed a crime under the article of the Criminal Code “treason against the state”. Criminal liability is introduced for propaganda of terrorism, discrediting the armed forces, other troops and military formations, paramilitary organizations.
