The condition of the Leopard 2 tanks promised to Ukraine does not allow us to call the situation around their deliveries successful, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said before the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.

“Now we are talking about 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks from Germany. As a result of a conversation with my Portuguese colleague, Lisbon will also supply three A6s – and for a small NATO member country like Portugal, this is a worthy contribution. Additional deliveries are not discussed now. A Polish colleague is now engaged in A4 models , and according to the current state, you need to ask him. And there, too, you can’t say that it’s a very heady success, to put it with restraint, “he explained.

According to the official, this is especially true of the condition and combat readiness of the mentioned tanks, as well as the number of spare parts that the German authorities can provide to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In January, the German government, after pressure from NATO allies, said it would transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and allow German tanks to be supplied to other countries that have them. Berlin at the first stage plans to provide a company of 14 Leopard 2 type A6 from the stocks of the Bundeswehr.

Poland, for its part, also promised to send 14 tanks of this model, noting that deliveries are scheduled for March. Before that, the country had already transferred about 250 T-72 tanks to Ukraine.
