Austria is in an extremely tense situation in terms of gas reserves, must do everything for the best readiness for the winter, said Minister of Energy of the Republic Leonore Gewessler.

“We know one thing: we are in an extremely tense situation. And we know one more thing – Vladimir Putin can no longer be relied upon, he is no longer a reliable partner. Therefore, we must do everything to best prepare for winter,” said Gewessler, answering to the question of what to expect in the winter in the current situation.

According to the minister, the country intends to fill the gas storage facilities by 80% by winter, now they are 44.7% full.

“The central safety buffer for the winter is our storage facilities. Austria has large storage facilities, which is good, but we have to fill them up. In the federal government, we set a goal of filling them up to 80% before winter, at the moment they are 44.7% full ” Gewessler said.

“In this conflict, Russia is using energy supplies as a weapon.” Therefore, Austria plans, firstly, to stock up on as much gas as possible, secondly, to achieve maximum diversification, and thirdly, to become independent. “We must produce as much energy as possible ourselves,” the minister said.
