The Pentagon has requested funds for the development of the Doomsday aircraft

The US Air Force has requested $ 2.2 billion to develop a new Doomsday aircraft, it became known from the budget documents of the department.

We are talking about the creation of an E-4C air command post. The requested amount is calculated for fiscal year 2027. It is 23.2 percent higher than the funds allocated for the program in 2026. Costs will increase due to the large-scale expansion of engineering work and testing.

According to the documents, the new aircraft will replace the aging E-4B. It is expected that, like all such devices, it will be protected from the effects of a nuclear explosion and an electromagnetic pulse. On board, the President of the United States, the Secretary of War and other key officials of the country will be able to lead the troops in the event of the destruction of ground headquarters.

The Pentagon has signed a development contract with Sierra Nevada Corporation. The main design phase is planned until the end of 2031.

Additionally, the Pentagon plans to allocate about three billion dollars for the modernization of the airbase infrastructure and more than 5.4 billion for the purchase of finished aircraft, which will begin in 2029.
