The permanent representative to the UN interrupted the reporter with words about the US role in the war in Ukraine.

The BBC correspondent in New York, Laura Trevelyan, said that “the United States is prolonging the war by arming Ukraine,” but the US envoy to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, did not let her finish, accusing Russia of the ongoing conflict.

Thomas-Greenfield will visit Ghana, Mozambique and Kenya on January 25-29. The US Permanent Mission to the UN noted earlier that the visit, among other things, will be devoted to the impact of the conflict in Ukraine on global food security.

“The African Union has called for a negotiated end to the war in Ukraine. That’s what African leaders want. But you can’t promise them that, can you?” – asked correspondent Thomas-Greenfield in an interview, the transcript of which was sent out by the US Permanent Mission.

In response, the permanent representative stated that “only Russia can promise them that.”

“But the US is prolonging the war by arming Ukraine, so…” Trevelyan wanted to continue.

Cumulatively, the United States has provided more than $27.4 billion in military aid to Ukraine since President Joe Biden’s administration began. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, “including not only the supply of weapons, but also the training of personnel” in the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.

However, judging by the transcript, Thomas-Greenfield did not let Trevelyan finish the sentence. According to her, “Russia is prolonging the war by continuing to attack Ukraine.

“Ukraine must defend itself. If Ukraine doesn’t defend itself, it’s over. It’s all over. And that’s why we made a commitment to help Ukrainians defend themselves against this unprovoked attack,” the US envoy replied.
