The Vatican is taking certain steps of a diplomatic nature in connection with the situation around Ukraine, but we are not talking about any peace plan, Pope Francis said.
⠀
“Now, at the moment, the Vatican is doing some things more diplomatic in nature to see if something can be achieved … But there is no peace plan (at the Vatican). There is a ministry in the name of peace,” he said.
⠀
According to the pope, many heads of state are concerned about the situation.
⠀
“For example, in India (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi is very worried. And Modi is a balanced person who can perfectly call for a dialogue between both. This is an example. There are other heads of state. Non-public work is underway,” Pope Francis said.
⠀
He also said that he did not know whether a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky in the Vatican was possible, but admitted the possibility of holding a meeting of representatives of different countries.
⠀
“A meeting of representatives of the countries of the world is possible … There is one Israeli group that is also working on this … The Vatican is working,” Pope Francis said.
